San Patrignano 2005: Five Riders withdraw from the Competition.
The Organizing Committee of the European Championship, due to be held at San Patrignano on July 21-24, received official news of the withdrawal of the Russian Federation’s team (three riders and their horses), in addition to Spanish rider Cayetano Martinez de Irujo and Greece’s Antonis Petris. They were forced to withdraw due to accidents or physical problems which have arisen in the past few days. The Russian team’s forfeit brings the total number of nations participating to 21 and the number of teams competing for the title to 15. Greece and Spain will still be in the running for the team medals, as they still have a sufficient number of riders to compete. As of now, there will be a total of 69 riders ready to jump on the first day of competition.
